Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
