It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a side that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if not provided the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her newest gem.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her debut and seven global championships have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it was a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to play and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have pushed back plans to retire, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
